Congratulations to NTPA Academy student Amanda Reid on booking her first film role as a pageant contestant in “Miss Juneteenth,” a local independent movie filmed in Ft. Worth, TX.  The film premiered at Sundance and was selected for SXSW, before it was cancelled due to coronavirus.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation from slavery in Texas on June, 19, 1865. Miss Juneteenth is a pageant held every year, and the winner gets a scholarship to any HBCU (Historically Black College and University) in Texas.

Check out the trailer for the film “Miss Juneteenth” set to debut this Friday on Juneteenth. It was written and directed by an African-American female from Ft. Worth, Channing Godfrey Peoples. You can catch Amanda in seconds 0:17-0:20 and 1:18 in the trailer.
